New hair clips: mix & match

New hair clips: mix & match

Hi there!

I have added a few more styles to the fall collection of hair clips using the very simple mix & match principle.

I pair a Liberty of London flowery bow with a more simple but glittery flat or bow barrette in japanese ribbon.

I hope you will find one that suits you and your little one !

Enjoy!

five/eleven in Toulon @ La Corniche et Les Voiles

five/eleven in Toulon @ La Corniche et Les Voiles

I am so proud to announce that you can now find five/eleven products in Toulon, South of France as part of the shopping experience of these two beautiful hotels : La Corniche and Les Voiles.

Toulon is the other place I call home, it is my adoptive city, a little gem of sea and sun between Marseille and Cannes that really deserves to be known. Ideally located in the Mourillon with great views over the sea, the four and three star hotels are modern, cozy and with a great atmosphere, they are the place to stay when in Toulon.

We have selected everything you need when travelling : pouches, useful bags, hair clips, backpacks and cloud cushions (the best head rest for those long car rides) so five/eleven can be part of your trip.

Many thanks Laura Grandval my good friend and general manager of these two very comfortable and unique sea side hotels for making this happen!

New: the airmail stripe!

New: the airmail stripe!

Wether it is the the nostalgia of old airmail enveloppes that I would receive as a child from my godmother from America or the colors of the French and American flags, I have always loved colored stripes.

Today let me introduce you to the airmail bib and hair clips!

These are now available in the eshop under the B/ bibs and H/ hair clips sections.

Enjoy!

It's all in that little elastic band!

It's all in that little elastic band!

Today let me explain in further details how the smart squares and the napkins work!

In the reverse of the smart squares and the napkins, in a corner, I have inserted a little elastic band.

This elastic band gives you more options and a simple square of fabric becomes a lot more interesting!

You can use it :

1- as a regular muslin square or napkin (on your child's knees).

2- as a bandana: you  fold the square into a triangle (leaving the elastic at one of the two corners) and pass one end of the triangle into the loop of the elastic in order to make a bandana around your child's neck.

3- as a neck napkin: you leave the square unfolded and pass the opposite corner of the elastic in the elastic's loop in order to make a long napkin.

The elastics are from Japan and are very resistent to use, hot water and tumble dryer. You can wash the muslin squares and napkins very frequently, they are made of 100% cotton. As a matter of fact, the more you will wash them, the softer they will become!

You can choose from 4 different colors for the smart squares : white, cream, grey and soft pink, and 2 colors for the gingham napkins : navy and pink. They measure 20 x 20 inches (50 x 50 cm).

Inspirations

Hello and welcome to five/eleven!

For this first post I wanted to introduce you to my various sources of inspiration on this great adventure!

I'll start with my two boys. I began to sew in 2013 when I was pregnant with my second son. I wanted to make him simple things with fabric prints I could not find in shops.  I mainly started with bibs - a lot of them! and then changing mattress covers and blankets. And then I made hair clips for my friends' daughters.

As these two ingenious and funny little guys grew up, other ideas and inspirations came to me for new, useful and everyday products lead by the desire to be easy to use, fun and exciting to look at, while keeping the sweetness and innocence of childhood.

I began to look at fabrics and fabric designers and after a few years of use and research here are the ones that I have specifically chosen for five/eleven because I believe they have a unique touch.

- My Little Venture. Venture is the proud creator of the beautiful flamingo fabric. My Little Venture was launched in London in 2013 by French illustrator, wallpaper and textile designer, Venture de Saboulin. Her designs are very delicate and full of grace, she also makes them into beautiful wallpapers and stationery.

- France Duval-Stalla. France is a French fabric designer based in Paris. Her shop in the 6th arrondissement is a gem and I could spend hours there. She is the one that makes the silver dots prints and the wonderfully soft diamond shape quilted terry of the baby blankets.

- Sarah Jane for Michael Miller Fabrics. Sarah Jane is a designer and illustrator. She lives in Utah, USA her work is populated with loveable characters. I discovered her work in France and got to know more about her when I arrived in the US. Her art prints are also very inspiring and full of nostalgia.

 - Nani Iro. Naomi Ito is the designer behind the Nani Iro Japanese brand. I discovered her work in 2013 and instantly fell in love with her watercolors on fabric that makes each piece unique. I use it for the mummy's pouch as I believe it has more of a grown up feel to it.

All these artists are great sources of inspiration for me and I hope you will like this collection as much as I do!

Enoy your visit and the products!
